Platform Availability

This page gives an indication of the availability of 'early' versions of X-Designer for 'early' versions of Operating Environments. For latest availability see the current platform availability page.

The Operating System version shown is that against which X-Designer was built. Normally it will happily run on a later version. See the notes at the end here or on the current availability page for details of compatibility with other OS versions.

X-Designer: Advanced Technology Edition (Release 5.5)
is currently available for the following platforms:

Japanese X-Designer 4.6

Japanese X-Designer 4.0

Earlier versions of X-Designer are available for the above platforms, usually running an earlier version of the Operating System than specified above, and the following. There is no guarantee that support will be available for these and it is unlikely that later releases of X-Designer will be produced for the following.

Notes

The Operating System version shown above is that against which X-Designer was built.

X-Designer is generally not sensitive to the point release of the Operating System. It will generally also run under a higher version than specified, but it is probable that there will be problems when trying to run it under a lower version.

Silicon Graphics

There is a version of X-Designer 4.6 built on Irix 5.3 which is known to work on Irix 5.3 and versions of Irix 6 up to and including 6.2.

All versions were built with X11R6 and thus work best with an X11R6 environment.

HP-UX

X-Designer 5 was built on a HP B132 using HP-UX 10.20 and X11R6. This has been tested on an machine running HP-UX 11.

There is a version of X-Designer 4.6 built on an HP700 series machine using HP-UX 9.07 and X11R5.

Both X-Designer 4.6 and 5.0 will also run on an HP800 series machine which has the PA-RISC 1.1 microprocessor.

IBM

There are three versions of X-Designer 5 for the IBM Risc System/6000, one built on AIX 4.1, one on 4.2 and one on 4.3. You should ensure that you have the correct version as it is known that they will not run properly on other versions of AIX.

Compaq Tru64 (Digital) UNIX

X-Designer 5.5 was built and tested on Compaq Alpha running Tru64 UNIX 4.0, and also tested on Tru64 UNIX 5.1

There is a version of X-Designer 4.6 for the Compaq (formerly DEC) Alpha built on Digital UNIX 3.2.

Linux

There are two versions of X-Designer 5.0 for Linux running on the Intel x86 platform. One was built using the Slackware 3.5 distribution containing Linux 2.0.34 and gcc 2.7.2 using the elf object format and libc5. The other was built using the RedHat 5.2 distribution containing Linux 2.0.36, gcc 2.7.2.3 and glibc (libc6). You should ensure that you use the more appropriate version for your system.

UnixWare

The UnixWare ports of X-Designer built on UnixWare 7.0 will NOT run properly on UnixWare 7.1. You should use the SCO ODT 5 version instead.

LynxOS

X-Designer for LynxOS is for the Motorola PowerPC platform. The two versions were built on a Motorola PowerStack 604. X-Designer 4.5 for LynxOS 2.4.0 is known to run on LynxOS 2.5.0, but the license manager software will only run on LynxOS 2.4. X-Designer 4.6 is for LynxOS 2.5.0. X-Designer will only run with the license management software supplied with it.

Compaq (DEC) Alpha VMS

X-Designer 4.6 for Compaq Alpha running OpenVMS 6.1 will also run on VMS 7.1. Please note that it does NOT have the XD/Capture and XD/Replay facilities.
